StockEven

Shopify app

StockEven for Shopify

Square POS and Shopify, one stock count. Installed from the Shopify App Store, used inside the Shopify admin.

What it does

  • A sale, refund, delivery or recount in Square POS changes the quantity of the same product in Shopify, usually within a few seconds.
  • An order, refund or manual edit in Shopify changes the quantity in Square.
  • Products are matched by SKU between one Square location and one Shopify location.
  • The Overview shows the connection live, with the products in sync, the ones waiting for a decision and the ones with a problem. Activity lists every change with its direction and reason.

Requirements

  • A Shopify store and a Square seller account with at least one location.
  • Inventory tracking turned on for the products in Shopify and in Square.
  • The same SKU on a product in both systems.

Setup

  1. Install StockEven: Square POS Sync from the Shopify App Store and open it from Apps.
  2. Click Connect Square. Square opens in a new tab and shows the access requested: items, locations and inventory (read and update) and orders (read). Click Allow.
  3. Choose the Square location and the Shopify location whose stock should match, then click Save and match products.
  4. Products with the same SKU and the same quantity start syncing at once. The rest appear under To decide.

Different quantities

When a product has a different quantity in Square and in Shopify, sync for that product waits until the correct quantity is chosen: Use Square: X or Use Shopify: Y, one product at a time or for all at once. The other system is then set to the chosen quantity and syncing starts.

How syncing works

  • Changes are sent as differences (for example −2 after a sale), so a sale in Square and an order in Shopify at the same moment both count.
  • Every change is written once. Each write to Shopify carries a key taken from the original change and is checked against the quantity StockEven last saw, so a retry after a network error does not apply the same change twice.
  • StockEven's own writes are recognised when Shopify reports them back and are not sent to Square again.
  • Once an hour every synced product is compared in both systems. A difference with no change in progress is corrected toward the quantity chosen at linking.
  • Shopify keeps whole units. A fractional quantity in Square (for example 1.5 kg) is rounded in Shopify.

Products that can't sync

  • Stock is not tracked in Shopify at the selected location: turn on Track quantity for the variant and stock it at the location.
  • SKU is used more than once: give each product a unique SKU in that system.
  • Stock tracking is off in Square: turn on stock tracking for the item in Square.
  • Removed in Shopify or Square: the product link is paused.

After fixing, click Check again next to the product under Problems.

Plans

Plans are billed by Shopify on the store's Shopify invoice and are chosen with Plans in the app. The plan sets how many products can sync. Products above the limit stay matched and are marked Over plan limit, and they start syncing after a move to a larger plan. Current prices are on the Shopify App Store listing.

Data

StockEven works with products, SKUs, locations and stock quantities. It does not read or store customer names, addresses, emails or payment details of the store's buyers. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Uninstalling

Uninstalling the app in Shopify stops syncing at once. Within 48 hours Shopify asks StockEven to erase the store's data, and the product links, stock change records and activity log are deleted. Access to Square is removed when no other store uses the same Square account.
